11 Things A Guy Seriously Needs To Remember To Win In A Relationship

How do you know you’re in a healthy relationship? Believe me, it’s totally normal to feel this nagging question. If you didn’t feel it, that would mean you didn’t care about your life, your partner, or your future. However, questioning your relationship’s health is not the same as obsessing about it or worrying too much. Learn to think about it, then set it aside and enjoy yourself and your partner’s time together.

When you first start dating someone new, you’re both driven by infatuation, emotion, and passion. It seems that you’ve met the best person ever, and that they can do no wrong. Enjoy this feeling, because it doesn’t last forever.

Later, when the relationship gets serious, it becomes more about how willing you are to put in effort, and about the bad habits you refuse to break. Part of loving someone means wanting to be a better person for their sake. In this stage, take time to reminisce fondly on the puppy-love times you had.

#1 - Don’t Criticise her Looks

Let’s face it: everyone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed sometimes, and your partner isn’t always going to look her best. But in a relationship, you always have to be on each other’s side. Never mock or tease your girlfriend in front of others, unless you know she’s cool with it.

#2 - Do Encourage Her

Part of being on her side means encouraging her to try new things, step out of her comfort zone, and accomplish her goals. Sometimes, that means a little tough love. But when she fails, be there for her to comfort her.

#3 - Do Recognize Her Value

You know as well as I do that we don’t always feel our best. Being down can make you feel worthless or stupid. One of the benefits of being in a relationship is that someone is always there to remind you of your worth. Be that person.

#4 - Don’t Make Her Feel Lonely

Have you ever been at a party, and talked to someone who really doesn’t care about what’s going on, and just seems like they don’t want to be there? It kind of ruins the whole enthusiastic mood of the party. Why would you want to be that person in your relationship? Show up and invest in her.

#5 - Don’t Be Afraid of ‘The Talk’

Communication is said to be the most important part of a relationship. Man up and be willing to hash things out with your girlfriend when you have an issue, rather than complaining to your friends or your mom.

#6 - Do Keep Her in The Loop

While she is the most important person in your life, that doesn’t mean she’s the only person in your life. When you make plans with friends, try to run it by her to make sure she’s okay with it. Pro tip: this is also a great way to find out if she has a control-freak side that could pose a problem in future.

#7 - Don’t Snoop

If you’re curious about who she’s texting, who she went out with, or what she’s smiling about, resist the urge to get jealous and suspicious. Just click back two slides and refer to my previous point. Ask her about it. If she gets angry, try to be understanding. Just explain that you get jealous because you care, and you want to be honest about your feelings.

#8 - Do Tend to Her When She’s Sick

Real talk: when your girl is sick, that’s when she’ll be at her most whiny, her most needy, her most smelly, and her most disgusting. But that’s when she really needs you to help her wash, to get her foods and treats, and to keep her company. Trust me, you would want the same from her--and women are great at it.

#9 - Do Go at Her Pace

Some women just won’t be able to keep their hands off you. But others want to take it slow. While going slow may be frustrating, every relationship has to move at the pace of the slowest person. It sucks, but you wouldn’t want someone making you uncomfortable. So just be patient. It’ll be worth it.

#10 - Don’t Be a Ghost Boyfriend

No father likes the guy that beeps the horn from the driveway without coming to the door, and no friend group likes the guy that doesn’t seem to want to meet them. While not all personalities mesh, you should at least make one effort to meet the people your girlfriend cares about. Who knows, you might make a new friend, or gain new insight into what makes her who she is.

#11 - Don’t Be Ashamed of Her

Your girlfriend should be someone you’re proud to show off. If you’re a private person, it may not really matter who she is or what she looks like, you may just be embarrassed to show her off. Don’t feel bad. Just start with your circle of friends, and remember to be on her side. If she says something that bothers your friends, talk to her seperately, then talk to your friends later. Don’t talk badly about her behind her back. Just explain her thought process.
If you follow these Do’s and Don’ts, you’ll either learn that she isn’t right for you, or you’ll have a happy, healthy relationship. And remember: Don’t stress too much, and try to enjoy it while it lasts. Whatever happens, happens.
